Frequently Asked Questions

How long can volunteers stay at my lodge?

It is up to the agreement between you and the volunteers. You choose a minimum stay from a list when you set up your profile, you can also state the maximum stay or agree on it with the individual or be very flexible. A 2-3 month maximum stay is normal. If a tourist visa is needed for your volunteer, that is entirely their responsibility.

Do I have to pay for a trip organized by a fellow angler?

Like all travels, a fishing trip costs money, then even more money. However this is between you and your host. goneXfishing does not get involved in anything other than give you the opportunity to connect.

Can friends or couples apply for a work exchange?

Yes. However we do not have joint accounts at the moment. If friends or family want to volunteer too, they should sign up and make the same arrangements.

Do I get paid for my work in a work exchange program?

Nope. Work exchange is voluntary. You work 4-5 hours a day for board and lodging. Like this you are good to go with a tourist visa if needed.

Do I have to take my own gear?

Ask your host, please. Most fishing lodges and resorts have fishing gear or have gear for rent and are happy for you to use it.

What do I have to provide?

Volunteers are offered board and lodging in exchange for 4-5 hours of light work per day. Your empty rooms, staff rooms work just fine and meals three times a day. The rest is entirely up to you and your agreement with the volunteer. Providing fishing gear sometimes comes handy for travellers flying without theirs.
